Onto Athens
Today, you are free until the transfer to the Istanbul airport for your flight to Athens. On arrival in Athens, you will be met and escorted to your hotel (check in after 1400 hours). You have the rest of the day free to explore this enticing city on your own. No other city has contributed more to the civilization of mankind than Athens. It is the place where Socrates was born, Plato, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides and many others. It is the place where humanism and democracy were born. (B, D)
In Athens | Guided City Tour
After a leisurely breakfast, depart for a guided city tour. The Acropolis hill, the ‘Sacred Rock’ of Athens, is one of the architectural masterpieces from the period of Ancient Greece. It literally means the age of a town or a high city. Its crowning glory is The Parthenon, which is dedicated to the patron goddess of Athens, Athena Parthenos. Time honoured and standing firm, The Parthenon is the most distinctive monument of ancient Greek civilisation and even today, its main international symbol. Its decorative sculptures are considered one of the high points of Greek art. An enduring symbol of ancient Greece and of Athenian democracy, it is regarded as one of the world’s greatest cultural monuments (B, D)
Aegean Islands Cruise | Cruise To The Aegina, Hydra And Poros Islands
Today, after breakfast, depart by bus for the Trocadero Harbour. Sail out on the bluest of blue seas to the island of Aegina - the largest of the trio of islands to be visited and well known for its pistachio nuts. Once there, you are at leisure to visit the small shops, go for a swim, or take our optional tour to the Temple of Aphea. Set sail again for the amphitheatrical port of Hydra. Apart from the many luxurious yachts that anchor there, it provides a setting for a colourful collage of outdoor taverns, cafeterias, boutiques and picture postcards. Next, cruise through the straits to Poros, a picturesque island within touching distance of the Peloponnesian mainland - a green paradise of lemon groves and pine (acacia) woods. Sail back to Trocadero Harbour and transfer by bus to Athens. (B, L on the cruise, D)
